Cedar Hat Weaving Retreat

Spend four nights in Klahoose Territory learning to weave a red cedar bark hat with Klahoose cultural interpreter Ivan Rosypsky. Designed for beginners, this small group workshop gives you the time and guidance to make your hat from start to finish, then take it home as a reminder of your time in Desolation Sound.
Ivan gathers red cedar bark in spring, when the sap begins to flow and the bark can be harvested. Over two days, he will guide guests through approximately eight to ten hours of weaving. Your materials include the bark, a chin strap and oil to finish your hat. A third day allows extra time and support for anyone still weaving, so there is no need to rush.
Between workshop sessions, enjoy meals together, time at the resort and the waterways of Klahoose Territory. A guided boat outing is planned during the stay, with the route and activities to be confirmed closer to departure.

Cedar Hat Weaving
Approximately eight to ten hours of cedar hat weaving instruction over two days, with additional time available on the third day. Red cedar bark, chin strap and finishing oil for your hat
Whales, Waterfalls & Wildlife Tour
Venture out with a Klahoose guide on a 4–5 hour boat tour through Desolation Sound. Watch for humpbacks, orcas, dolphins, sea lions, eagles, and black bears. In spring (May to mid-June), enjoy exclusive grizzly and black bear viewing by boat.
Guided Tour to Ahpokum
Journey to the ancestral village site of Ahpokum for a meaningful half-day cultural experience. Participate in a traditional bathing ceremony and learn about Klahoose heritage firsthand.
Indigenous Experiences
Take part in storytelling, a traditional welcome, and a cedar-brushing-off ceremony—designed to clear energy and connect you to the land.
