How does the resort incorporate Klahoose traditions into each stay?

Coast Salish and Klahoose culture is woven throughout every stay and shared by Klahoose cultural interpreters on their own terms. Experiences may include a traditional welcome, evening cultural sharing, storytelling, cedar weaving, Indigenous guided wildlife tours and a cedar brushing off ceremony.These experiences invite guests to learn about Klahoose culture, stories, stewardship and the deep relationship between the Klahoose People and their territory.

Should I bring a gift or tabacco offering?

Accepted Answer

Guests are not expected to bring a gift or offering. If you personally wish to offer something to a Klahoose cultural interpreter, tobacco is appropriate within Klahoose and Coast Salish protocol. Other thoughtful gifts may include beadwork, a necklace or a bracelet.This is entirely optional. The gesture is more important than the value of the gift, and your respectful participation and thanks are more than enough.

Guests are welcome to take photographs during most cultural activities. However, photography and recording are not permitted during the Coast Salish cultural bathing experience or the cedar brushing off ceremony.Before publicly sharing images of cultural interpreters or guides, or any songs, stories or oral history presentations, please ask permission. This helps ensure that Klahoose culture and knowledge are shared respectfully.Alcohol should not be consumed during ceremonies or cultural sharing. We ask guests to be present, listen respectfully and follow any additional guidance provided by the cultural interpreters.

Klahoose Wilderness Resort offers three, four and seven night wildlife and cultural packages.Three night stays arrive on Thursday and depart on Sunday. Four night stays arrive on Sunday and depart on Thursday. Seven night stays may begin on either Thursday or Sunday and combine the experiences and benefits of both itineraries.

What is the payment and cancellation policy?

A 10% deposit is required to confirm your reservation, with the remaining balance due 45 days before arrival.We understand that travel plans can sometimes change. A cancellation or change fee of $100 per person applies from the time of booking. Cancellations made within 44 days of arrival are nonrefundable.Different terms may apply to group reservations. What time are arrival and departure?

Arrival at the resort is at approximately 4:00 pm. Guests travelling through Lund should meet our team in front of the Lund Resort at Klah ah men at 2:30 pm. The boat departs Lund Harbour at 3:00 pm, and the covered journey to Klahoose Wilderness Resort takes approximately 45 minutes.Guests flying from Vancouver to Powell River may be able to use our complimentary shared transportation between Powell River Airport and Lund for select connecting flights. This must be arranged in advance. Direct seaplane flights to the resort may also be available through our reservations team.On departure day, guests check out after breakfast at approximately 9:30 am. The return boat arrives in Lund Harbour at approximately 11:00-11:30 am. Do you offer transportation from Powel River Airport to Lund?

Yes. Complimentary shared transportation between Powell River Airport and Lund is available for select Pacific Coastal Airlines flights from Vancouver International Airport’s South Terminal. The flight to Powell River takes approximately 35 minutes, followed by a one hour drive to Lund to meet our boat.Flights are not included in your package. Where do I meet the boat to transfer to the resort?

Please meet our Klahoose team near the main entrance of the Lund Resort at Klah ah men at 2:30 pm. Staff will assist with your luggage and escort you to the marina in Lund Harbour.Our covered boat departs for Klahoose Wilderness Resort at 3:00 pm on Thursdays and Sundays. On departure day, the boat returns guests to Lund at approximately 11:00-11:30 am.

Can I fly directly to the resort?

Yes. During peak season, scheduled seaplane flights may be available from Vancouver International Airport’s South Terminal directly to our dock.Private charter flights may also be arranged from Vancouver, Campbell River, Whistler, Tofino, Victoria, Seattle and other nearby resorts or lodges. Is there parking in Lund?

Yes. Guests driving to Lund from Vancouver or Vancouver Island with BC Ferries can leave their vehicle in paid overnight parking near the Lund Marina.Lund Parking is approximately a three minute walk from our boat departure point and currently charges $13 per vehicle, per day. There are no specific baggage restrictions for guests using our included boat transfer between Lund and the resort. However, we recommend bringing luggage that is easy to handle and suitable for a short boat journey. Luggage assistance is provided.If you are travelling by air to Powell River or directly to the resort, please confirm baggage allowances and restrictions with your airline or seaplane operator before departure.

What should I pack?

Dress casually and in layers, as temperatures can be cooler on the ocean. Bring comfortable clothing, a sweater or fleece, a light rain jacket and closed toe footwear, which is mandatory on boats. Hiking shoes or boots are recommended if you plan to explore the longer rainforest trail.We also suggest bringing a bathing suit, sunglasses, a hat, binoculars, bug repellent, eco friendly sunscreen, personal toiletries, medications, a small daypack, a camera and chargers for your devices. Water shoes are recommended for guests participating in the Coast Salish cultural bathing experience, offered from May to mid August.There is no general store or ATM at the resort, so please bring all personal items you will need during your stay. Credit cards are accepted at the gift shop and for alcoholic beverages, optional activities and additional gratuities.

This allows our culinary team to plan carefully and confirm what we can accommodate.

Yes. Our drinking water comes from a freshwater creek beside the resort. It is filtered, treated daily and regularly tested in accordance with BC health standards.

The service fee includes a gratuity that is shared among our resort staff and guides.If you wish to further acknowledge the team, an additional gratuity of $50 per guest, per day is recommended. This is entirely optional and is shared among the resort staff and guides. Please ask the onsite manager for an envelope or assistance leaving a gratuity.

Should I bring a bathing suit?

Yes. Guests can enjoy our floating cedar sauna and swim directly from the dock. Desolation Sound has some of the warmest ocean waters on the Pacific Coast, reaching up to 24°C or 75°F during peak summer.A bathing suit and water shoes are also recommended for guests participating in the optional Coast Salish cultural bathing experience, offered from May to mid August. Towels and bathrobes are provided at the resort.

Complimentary WiFi is available in the main lodge and is strongest in this area. The connection is suitable for browsing the internet, checking email and sharing photographs.Because our remote location relies on limited satellite bandwidth, guests cannot stream movies, upload videos or complete large downloads and backups. You are welcome to share photographs during your stay, but please wait until after departure to upload videos.When sharing your experience on social media, please tag us.

There is no cellular coverage at Klahoose Wilderness Resort. A satellite phone is available in the main lodge for guest use. Please speak with a member of our team if you need to make a call.

Yes. Although Klahoose Wilderness Resort is off grid and powered by a micro hydroelectric system, standard North American electrical outlets are available in all rooms and cabins. Please help us conserve energy by not bringing high energy appliances such as portable heaters or cooking devices.

All public areas, guest rooms, cabins, balconies and boats are smoke free. This applies to tobacco, cannabis and vaping.Smoking or vaping is permitted only in the designated outdoor area. Klahoose Wilderness Resort offers four guest rooms in the main lodge and three private cedar cabins located a short walk away.Based on double occupancy, the resort accommodates up to 14 guests. Overall capacity is approximately 18 guests when additional bedrooms and sleeping areas are shared. Families with children are welcome during our Discover Klahoose season from May to mid August.For Grizzly Bears of Toba Inlet packages from late August to October, children must be at least 10 years old. The tours include approximately two to three hours of quiet observation from our viewing platforms.Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising children at all times. The resort does not provide lifeguards or babysitting services.Children aged two and younger stay free.

Klahoose Wilderness Resort and our guided tours are not wheelchair accessible due to the remote environment and the physical design of our facilities. Guests should be comfortable walking on marina docks and sloped ramps, boarding and disembarking boats, and using stairs. Stairs are required to enter the main lodge, guest rooms and cabins.Most transfers and guided wildlife tours operate from dock to dock, and luggage handling is included. We move at a comfortable pace and do not require guests to land on rocky shorelines or beaches during our regular boat and grizzly bear tours. These tours do not include trail hiking.During grizzly bear tours, guests travel by covered, heated boat to our dock in Toba Inlet and then by minibus to the viewing area. The minibus parks close to the raised viewing platforms, which are accessed by stairs. A short gravel pathway may also be required.If you have mobility limitations, a disability or specific accessibility requirements, please contact us before booking. We will be happy to discuss the experience in detail and help you determine whether it is suitable for you.

How does grizzly bear viewing work?Grizzly bear viewing takes place from our private, fixed platforms along a remote forested river in Toba Inlet, Klahoose Territory. The raised and covered platforms provide excellent viewing while maintaining a respectful and safe distance from the bears.Guests travel from the resort by covered boat to our dock in Toba Inlet. The scenic journey takes approximately one hour and passes dramatic mountain scenery and waterfalls. From the dock, a minibus provides a short transfer through the forest to the viewing area. The minibus often parks close to the platforms, minimizing the amount of walking required. Stairs are required to enter the platforms, and a short gravel pathway may sometimes be used.Tours are fully guided by experienced Klahoose bear viewing guides trained and with standards set by the Commercial Bear Viewing Association of BC.Wildlife is observed in its natural habitat, so specific sightings cannot be guaranteed. Tour locations, timing and activities may be adjusted based on wildlife activity, weather, water conditions and guest safety.

What camera gear should I bring?

Any camera you have is a great choice, including a smartphone. The best camera is often the one you have with you.For guests interested in wildlife photography, we recommend bringing equipment that covers a range of focal lengths:1. A telephoto zoom, such as a 100–400mm or 100–500mm lens, is the most versatile option for bears and other wildlife.2. A longer lens, such as a 500mm or 600mm lens, can be helpful for whales and wildlife that must be viewed from a respectful distance. A 1.4x extender may also be useful.3. A mid range lens, such as a 70–200mm, is useful when wildlife is closer or for capturing activity around the resort.4. A wide angle lens, such as a 24–70mm, is ideal for landscapes, waterfalls and images that show wildlife within the surrounding scenery.5. A polarizing filter may help reduce glare on the water and can be useful for waterfalls and brighter conditions.Wildlife encounters can change quickly, so a versatile zoom lens is often more practical than changing lenses in the field. Binoculars are also useful.If you are joining us during grizzly bear season, our raised wooden viewing platforms are covered. Because space is limited, please do not bring a tripod.
